Portfolio

Just finished my new portfolio, and thought I would upload it, see if you guys see any issues with it. The whole thing comes in at 5.5mb so it is very emailable, and I have a reduced quality one that comes in at just over 4 mb it seems so many places have attachment limits of less than 10mb or less than 5 mb . It seems to have some issues working in the chrome pdf viewer adobe reader seems to work best. Update 7-13-2017

I had a conversation with someone the other day about portfolios. I thought I would update this post and start with uploading my first year, and undergraduate portfolios here. 1st year portfolio  wensday print

Documenting work is, in my personal opinion very important. it helps you to both see where you are going and where you have been.  In school, we were required to create portfolios to apply for second year, and graduate year. And it seemed natural after to create a portfolio for applying for jobs the first couple years out of school. But since the last comprehensive portfolio, I created I have worked on hundreds of projects as a professional with varying levels of involvement in each almost always as part of a team, and the projects themselves vary from interesting to mind-numbingly boring.

I do not know how it would now be possible to make a comprehensive portfolio to give someone an in-depth look at what I have done and the kind of architect I want to be, and package it into one document.  I have made quick work samples specific to trying to get little rendering jobs WORK SAMPLE LH (2), but I don’t think these do a great job of conveying anything about my design philosophy, or what I find important in Architecture.

The more I thought about it I began to realize that the nature of portfolios is changing, making a book of your work was the only option available as of about 15 years ago, but now with all the tools available to us paper portfolios no longer make sense. I realized that this blog/website has been my go to for documenting my work. I now consider this blog to be my main portfolio. Even though my posts on here are often sloppily written I think someone who visits this site and looks through my posts could get a better idea of my interests and passions, than any of my other previous portfolios.

I think having this website has made me a better designer, and I hope to continue to post and collect my work and thoughts on here for the foreseeable future.

  1. The Portfolio is amazing. Really good presentation, design, and technique. It seemed like all the ‘links’ work just fine. I like it with the amount of projects you chose to represent as well. Only 2 slight things.
I do not think you need the screenshot of your website on there, I think the text does enough. The screen shot just looks out of place among all the nice bordered images.
I really enjoyed the roll over of you as a kid, but if it were me, I would probably leave that out. It took me a second to realize that the image was you as a kid, at first I was like why is there this picture of some kid, then I got it. I think its just a little less professional then I would want. I dont think its a deal breaker or anything. but that is just me, If you kept it in, I think it would be just fine as well.

  2. You have developed a nice compilation of work since school and it is great to see your continued motivation. If I were an employer, I would be impressed by that alone and how you present the portfolio as not only your body of work but also as a large part of your lifestyle and interests. You say you’re a bad writer but I really liked how you presented your text. There were spelling errors sure but I thought the captions were short and concise while still presenting interest and cohesiveness throughout each project.
