NA Miata Visor Delete

The NA Miata is a small car. We all know that, and that’s one of the reason we love it so much. I am lucky at 6 foot to still fit in the car quite comfortably. My head comes about a half inch from hitting the roof while I am sitting with the top on. That doesn’t sound like a lot of room, but at least I fit.

One thing that did get frustrating is the sun visors. They tend to obstruct the view out making it challenging to see items high up, (traffic lights, I’m talking about you). The visors always seem to get in the way when you close the top too.

Easy enough, you just unscrew them from the car. But when you take them out, there remains a hole where you can see bare metal, or a hole where the visor was once inserted. So lets 3d print a little visor delete cover!

I first started by scanning in the old visor holder.

Then brought that into rhino and traced it out.

Brought it into makerbot. 100% infill, medium resolution.

With the rafts the print took 1 hour 12 minutes.

Then sand them down and spray them black to match the interior color. If you lay the first coat of paint on pretty thick, as it dries the paint will have little cracks in it. This will leave the paint with a texture similar to the OEM dash. A kind of orange peel look to it. I think it makes the visor deletes look nice and OEM.

now just screw them on! A real simple fun free project.

and now you can see when the traffic light changes!

Here is the 3d model. Feel free to print and use for your NA Miata!
